Oiled Wooden Floor that is “Sticky” I did not apply the WOCA oil properly and have been left with a sticky top surface where marks show easily.

The Woca oxidising oil system is a penetrating system and the oil penetrates to 1mm into the wood leaving an open pore surface. When excess oil is left on the surface the oxygen in the air cures the surface leaving it sticky and easily marked (footprints etc)

Your description of the problem strongly indicates that some excess oil was still present on the surface, hence the marks and the pigments being picked up on a cloth.

But all is not lost and you can rectify the problem as follows.

First we need to soften the surface and remove the partly cured excess oil from the surface the best procedure is as follows

Using WOCA wood cleaner wash the floor mixed 1-10 water and buff with a beige pad on the   Karcher buffing machine, this cleans the surface and also opens up the pores in the wooden floor ready for the next stage -leave to dry ( 3 hours minimum)

Apply some White maintenance oil to the surface  ( this is a very thin oil and helps soften the existing  surface) and buff the oil on the surface to soften and remove the cured excess oil.

Immediately using a lint free cloth wrapped around the buffing pad wipe off all the oil until it is dry  ( always dispose of the wetted oiled cloth  by soaking in water and putting it in a plastic bag and in your outside bin - if left there is a very small chance that the wetted cloth could self ignite )

Feel the floor with your hands and carefully visually inspect the floor  to ensure only the wood is exposed ( not a surface coating)

If satisfied then start oiling again with the white high solid oil  apply two  thin coats

Using the lint free cloth wrapped around the pad after 20 minutes wipe dry (by hand in the corners) ENSURE IT FEELS DRY.

Leave for 24 hrs to start curing

Then using the wood cleaner mixed with 20 parts water wash the floor to clean and open up the pores  - leave to completely dry

Using the White high solid oil and the beige pad  drop several tablespoons of oil onto the floor and buff in fully until it looks dry

Immediately wipe dry with a clean lint free cloth.

leave to dry and cure at 20 degrees C for three days and you should have a floor which will last for many years.

After three days soap the floor with white soap leave to dry and this will protect the floor and over the first couple of weeks clean and soap the floor every other day to build up the patina and protection.

I hope this does not sound too complicated, but it is very simple really and if you need any further help please call 01453 844675
