Sealants for Sub Floors
You must always test the moisture ;level of any subfloor before installing wood flooring. Any competent fitter will have a moisture tester and the level must be below 8% as our flooring is kiln dried to this level. Even old floorboards should be checked as shown here. If the moisture level is above 5% then you should always seal the floor. R410 is a hazardous product whereas the R580 is a two component damp proof membrane that is safer to use.
R410 is a solvent and water free two-component epoxy resin for priming, hardening and sealing substrates, or for damp-proofing concrete floors and substrates up to 5 CM%. It can also be used as a primer before using R770,R782 and R850 or levelling compounds and, after thinning with S100, for
hardening of the subfloor. In many cases (see Sitework) broadcasting of sand in the last application is necessary. R410 is Solvent free and has excellent adhesion to many substrates.
Application of R410 is possible with a paint roller, brush or trowel it is an epoxy resin base without colour and due to its viscosity is easy to apply and will cover about 0.8m2 per kilo.
After hardening it can only be removed by abrasion.
Storage / transport: The temperature must not fall below +5°C or exceed +25°C during storage and transport. Store in a dry, well ventilated place.
Shelf life: 12 months UN: 3082 (component A), 2735 (component B)
R580 is a solvent and water free silane based compound for priming substrates, special for damp-proofing cementitious screeds and concrete floors with moisture up to 5 CM% or 90 % rel. air humidity. It can be used as a 1-Component or 2-Component material. It is used before using R850, R850T or levelling compounds. While the adhesives are applied direct on the primer, levelling compounds need a broadcasting of sand in the wet primer. Bona R840, R845 and R860 are also compatible with the primer, but have a higher water permeability.
