Under Floor Heating and Wooden Floors

Can I fit a wood floor over under floor heating
Yes. Good quality Engineered boards with a hardwood backing and a thickness of 20mm are the optimum material for under floor heating. The hardwood backing and the 20mm thickness compliment underfloor heating and allow it to perform to its most cost effective and efficient level.

What is the best fitting method for under floor heating
A fully bonded floor i.e. adhesive fixed.
To operate underfloor heating to it's maximum efficiency it is necessary to avoid any voids between the substrate and the floor boards. Fit directkly to a sand and cement screed substrate that has been protected with a damproof membrane BONA R850 adhesive spread evenly with a 3mm notched trowell.

I have underfloor heating and in one area down the centre of the room the Engineered boards have lifted and delaminated
After investigation it was found that the under floor heating had not been commissioned and tested. The heating had been installed, then the floor laid and the heating had been switched on and operated at it's maximum temperature. Some of the heating pipes were too close to the floor boards, creating hot spots which exceded 27 degrees C.
ADVICE: Always follow the recommended guidelines for installing and operating under floor heating.
