Softwood Lye & Brazil Brown Finish: this explains how to get the finish and colour shown on the Brazil Brown Oiled Oak Floor
During this process please ensure the humidity is less than 55% and the environment is dust free. The floor should be completely clean, dry and free from stains before the application of lye or oils. The Softwood lye must be left still before use, to allow the white pigment to settle at the bottom of the tub. Once all the white pigment has settled, you must decanter the clear liquid from the pigment, leaving only pigment in the tub. You will not need the white pigment for this process of oiling, as this is only used for pine boards to prevent yellowing. The clear liquid is what you need to achieve the finish you require. The clear liquid is then applied to the boards (with a nylon roller or brush at 5-6m2 per litre), which basically opens the pores of the wood allowing a more dramatic effect from the oils. Allow 8 hours of drying time (the wood must be completely dry) before applying the Brazil Brown Colour Oil to the floor. Ensure you shake the container of the Brazil Brown Colour Oil before and during the application. Apply an even coat across the floor (coverage of 10-12m2 per Litre) and let the floor absorb the oil for 20 minutes. The oil should then be worked into the wood with a beige polishing pad, either manually or with a floor machine for approximately 15 minutes, or until the floor appears saturated. Any excess oil should be removed by cloths or paper or scraped onto the next area to be oiled. The floor should then be buffed with white polishing pads and lint-free cotton cloths under the floor machine. The colour oiled floor is pre-hardened after approximately 6 hours at room temperature of 20 degrees C and completely hardened after 72 hours. DO NOT expose the floor to water during the hardening process. Cover walking areas with corrugated cardboard. |
