Wood Flooring Hardness Tests using the Janka Scale
Real Wood Flooring hardness tests show how different species of wood floors will withstand indentations and wear and tear.
The chart below shows the Janka hardness test for all types of wood flooring including, Oak, Canadian Maple, American Black Walnut, Solid Bamboo and Strand Woven Bamboo. We supply all these as flooring solution. We will not supply Brazilian Walnut as it is normally illegally logged but we do have a range of Strand Woven Bamboo flooring that is as hard but is one of the most environmentally friendly flooring options available today.
You should always make sure that you choose the correct flooring for the purpose that you want. For example if you have large dogs with sharp claws that will never get cut (or hardly ever) then you will need the strand woven bamboo or a brushed and oiled oak. Do not buy a lacquered dark floor as dogs claws are very sharp and hard, but you could use a darker brushed oak floor.
The higher the number the harder the wood, as you can see Strand Woven Bamboo is three times harder than American Walnut. Walnut will"bruise" if mistreated.
