Colour blocks 'a perfect fit for spring style'

Doing up your bedroom can be an important step. It is, after all, arguably the most personal part of the home, where you will go to for relaxation, entertainment and, of course, sleep.

As thoughts of spring begin to dawn in many of our minds, it is the perfect time to start plotting a brand new, fresh style for your sleeping quarters that is relevant, modern and peaceful.

So why not listen to the experts? Interior designer Helen Green, writing for terrysfabrics.co.uk, has had her say on the matter of seasonal trends. The creative mind recommended using blocks of colours at this time of year.

While Ms Green admitted this trend is nothing new, it is nonetheless set to be particularly big in 2012.

"Obviously you have to love the use of colour to adopt this style, but it does give you the opportunity to bring a bedroom alive without any fuss or hassle. The basic principles are to use bold blocks of colour in geometric forms," Ms Green stated.

But it is not all about what you put on your walls. There are other crucial features of a bedroom that will have just as much of a say over whether it is an aesthetic dream or a design nightmare.

For instance, there is flooring to consider. Ms Green is adamant that a simple choice is the way to go and has advocated wood.

Commenting on the use of real wood flooring, she said it is advisable to choose a rug of a different colour and texture to complement it beautifully. This will ensure the room has an abundance of character.

Helen Bygraves and Jenny Weiss, directors of hillhouseinteriors.com and members of the Society of British Interior Design, recently revealed open-plan living to be another key trend in the current interior design sector.
