Wood 'is an ideal material for bathrooms'

The bathroom may not be the first room you think of when the subject of home improvements comes up. After all, fewer people are likely to see it compared to those visitors who may spend time in your kitchen, living room or dining area.

In fact, you might even deem yourself unworthy of a classic bathroom, if it is a space in which you don't spend too much time.

But that ignores the fact that bathrooms are evolving; they are slowly becoming a place we go to get away from the stresses and strains of life and enjoy some peace and quiet.

As such, it is imperative that you kit out your washroom in the very best materials and focus on its style and aesthetic appeal.

Lesley Taylor, an interior designer and design director at Taylor's Etc, has had her say on the matter and noted that one of the key trends at the moment is the surge in high-quality materials that are being used in this part of the home.

She highlighted metallics and stone as substances you might wish to opt for when choosing a new basin, with each of these said to be "really popular at the moment".

Wood is another material that wins the expert's vote, as she suggested it is just right for modern, beautiful bathrooms. With that in mind, why not invest in a hardwood floor to provide a solid, reliable and attractive surface?

Ms Taylor continued with her recommendations, stating: "Tiles used to be considered a practical element of the design process but over the past few years that view has changed dramatically. Now, tiles can be used in a creative fashion to add aesthetic appeal to almost any room in the home."

Another room in which floors made from wood work particularly well is the kitchen, according to recent words from Carolyn Parker, who runs her own self-titled company in Yorkshire.
