We are open for business as usual (although there here is nothing usual about this situation) with our transport company (Brooks Transport) who are designated by the government as critical to the covid response. We are still delivering direct to door or site, (however collections or visits to the warehouse are not possible.) Our IT systems allow us to work from home so our staff are protected. Please Call or Email Us for samples or orders. Our factories are back to full capacity and the supply chain is operating effectively which can be seen here. As a trade supplier we have a minimum requirement of 50m2 for any samples and supplies. Please call 01666 504015 if you require less. For Government advice please click here. Even with these steps we have made, we must pull together, support one another, and get through this as a group, a family, and feel proud to say to our wider community we are critical to the Covid-19 response, and we will support it for as long as we are able. Stay safe, stay well, look after yourself, and each other.

Why itu2019s important to buy sustainable timber products

If ever there was more reason to ensure you purchase sustainable timber products, a new study has estimated the number of trees on the planet and human’s influence on them.

A report on the BBC News website said that the study from Thomas Crowther at Yale University suggests there are over three trillion trees on Earth. The figure was produced through analyzing ground survey data with satellite pictures. The estimate was realized through data collected from over 400,000 forest plots around the world.

The study also suggests there are 1.39 trillion trees in the tropics and sub-tropics, 0.61 trillion in temperate regions, and 0.74 trillion in the boreal forests - the great band of conifers that circles the globe just below the Arctic.

Humans are cutting down 15 billion trees a year and rough estimates show only around 5 billion are being replanted each year. Although only 0.35% of the total, it shows human consumption of timber is huge. We need to maintain our forested areas because forests are natural highly efficient carbon sinks. Trees absorb CO2 through photosynthesis and release oxygen. By controlling carbon output, we can also limit the impact of climate change.

Here at the Solid Wood Flooring Company, we can help lessen the impact on the world’s ecosystems, by committing to use only FSC and PEFC certified timber sources for our wood flooring. We only supply Oak, Bamboo, Walnut and Canadian Maple timber flooring from sustainable sources and make sure not to use endangered or exotic wood species.

The Solid Wood Flooring Company were recently commended by the WWF for our efforts in sourcing sustainable timber for our flooring products and were awarded the top marks of three trees. All employees here are also keen supporters of the WWF’s Save the Forest campaign.
