How to protect your floor whilst work continues

12/09/2019

When undertaking a design and build project, there are normally a lot of trades people and suppliers to co-ordinate both figuratively and literally.

This means that ideally the flooring on any project should be laid last to avoid any trades people inadvertently bringing dirt and grit in and damaging the wood flooring.

However, it does not always work that way meaning that there can be remedial work for the tradespeople to complete after the flooring has been fitted. This is where the need for protection for your wood flooring comes in.

The Do’s and Don’ts

One top tip is to make sure you do not wrap the floor in plastic. People may think this a viable solution similarly when they Like humans it can sweat and any dirt that may have got underneath will be ground in when someone needs to walk on the floor. The floor will buckle, so issues can come when the flooring boards start to show signs of separation and damage.

What can be recommended however is a foam middle layer with a hardboard top with the edges taped together. This will avoid any damage by any grime that may have worked its way into the room.

Proactive steps you can take

Protecting your floor can be done with a few simple steps like putting felt pads on bottom of furniture, so it does not scratch your newly installed wood floor. There are also mats that can be placed in the high traffic areas to reduce wear and tear.

We hope this blog is helpful in providing you with the best way to protect your floor while you have work going on. We know it can be stressful when there is ongoing works, but we want to help so you can view our accessories page to see how we can make your life easier.
