What is PEFC Certification?

24/12/2015

After the recent successes at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris, the Solid Wood Flooring Company is committed to only using timber from sustainable sources in a bid to save the world’s forests.

Not only are The Solid Wood Flooring Company keen supporters of the WWF’s Save the Forests campaign, but we also ensure our wood floors met the exacting standards of FSC and PEFC certification.

What is PEFC?

Many will have heard of the UK’s wood certification organization – FSC, but PEFC is essentially the same certification but for the whole of Europe.

The Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC) is the world’s largest forest certification system.  Their credible standards seek to transform the way forests are managed globally – and locally – to ensure that all of us can enjoy the environmental, social and economic benefits that forests offer.
The PEFC is an international non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to promoting Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) through independent third-party certification.

PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for the highest ecological, social and ethical standards. Thanks to its eco-label, customers and consumers are able to identify products from sustainably managed forests.

Below are a couple of infographics from the PEFC that highlight the huge role forests play for the environment, and why it is so important we continue to only use both FSC and PEFC certified wood!
