The Solid Wood Flooring Company gain top marks again!

02/05/2017

We are proud to have received top marks from the WWF for our performance on sustainable timber and timber products in the WWF-UK Timber Scorecard 2017.

The WWF recently ran a Save the Forests campaign and use the Timber Scorecard as an assessment tool as part of an ongoing programme of work to raise awareness of the importance of responsible forest trade.

The WWF rate many of the biggest timber and timber product buyers in the UK on their sustainable sourcing.

We were commended for our transparency on these issues, which the WWF believe are an integral feature of a responsible company.

After final assessment, The Solid Wood Flooring Company has once again been assigned a final score of 3 trees (out of three) according to what is publicly available in terms of:
– Timber purchasing policy and what it says,
– Any performance statement, and what it says
– Any claims made about responsible sourcing of timber or similar, and what they say.

By gaining three trees, the WWF found that The Solid Wood Flooring Company responded well to almost all the requests WWF made regarding the purchasing of timber and timber products. We have made public commitments to using FSC and recycled timber and timber products, and to EUTR compliance, and have set up policies and control systems. The WWF found we report quantities openly and accurately and have a good understanding of the source of all our timber and timber products.

We are sourcing over 70% certified material, with high proportions of FSC and recycled timber and timber products. The Solid Wood Flooring Company are showing our competitors that it is possible to act responsibly when it comes to forest trade – but even we will need to find ways to do more to fulfil our targets by 2020.

WWF UK say of their campaign: “The business community can play a vital role in ensuring forest resources are well-managed. Sustainable forest management can help redress some of the most severe problems affecting forests, such as deforestation. We encourage your participation in this agenda: you need forests, and forests need you. Together we can make a difference: find out more from wwf.org.uk/gftn.”

Our team here at the Solid Wood Flooring Company are delighted with the WWF’s findings and are proud supporters of their Save the Forests campaign.
