Transforming the former BBC Television Centre into luxury apartments required materials that reflected the quality of the development. Working with the fit-out contractor, The Solid Wood Flooring Company supplied two bespoke engineered herringbone parquet floors, each chosen to complement the distinctive interior schemes while delivering the durability expected in high-end residential living.
The apartments were designed to combine timeless architectural character with contemporary interiors, making natural wood flooring a key part of the overall design.
The brief called for a clean Select Grade engineered parquet that would provide a refined, consistent appearance throughout the apartments while offering the stability and performance required in a modern residential environment.
To achieve this, two premium engineered herringbone floors were specified, each bringing its own character to the finished spaces.
The first specification was our White Oak engineered herringbone parquet, finished with an industrial UV-cured white oil to create a fresh, contemporary look.
A light brushing process removes the softer grain, leaving a more textured surface that not only enhances the natural character of the oak but also improves everyday durability. The result is a floor that retains its elegant appearance while being better suited to the demands of busy residential living.
For selected apartments, North American Black Walnut was chosen to create a richer, more dramatic interior.
Finished with hard wax oil, the flooring highlights the walnut’s distinctive grain and warm natural tones while providing a practical finish that can be maintained throughout its lifetime. Unlike many lacquered floors, localised repairs can be carried out without sanding the entire surface, helping preserve both the appearance and longevity of the floor.
The combination of bright White Oak and richly toned Black Walnut allowed designers to create apartments with their own individual identity while maintaining a consistently high specification across the development.
By pairing premium engineered construction with carefully selected finishes, the project achieved the warmth and authenticity of real wood alongside the long-term performance expected in a landmark residential conversion.
