Oak

Oak is best known for its strong, durable hardwood, used in furniture, construction, and boat-building, as well as for its high tannin content, which makes its bark useful for tanning leather and its wood ideal for ageing wines and spirits in barrels. Oak is also a symbol of strength and tradition, a vital habitat for wildlife, and historically significant for its use in making oak gall ink and in shipbuilding.
