Martyn Ryder is the founder and CEO of Ryder International Ltd, the parent company of The Solid Wood Flooring Company and Impervia. With over 22 years of experience in the hardwood flooring industry, Martyn has developed a trusted reputation for delivering premium, sustainable flooring solutions to architects, developers, and contractors across the UK.
Since 2003, Martyn has led the growth of a vertically integrated manufacturing and distribution business, focusing on innovation, sustainability, and long-term client relationships. His deep knowledge of engineered wood and SPC flooring makes him a trusted advisor in the specification of materials for complex and high-performance construction projects.
Martyn works closely with leading architectural firms, interior designers, and major developers, advising on tailored flooring solutions that combine design, durability, and cost-effectiveness. For example, he designed the company’s herringbone basket weave as a competitive alternative to expensive parquet panels for the Berkeley Group.
Alongside managing the business, Martyn contributes thought leadership across the industry through project insights, case studies, and technical resources.
“I’ve had many business interests over the years before setting up Ryder International Limited and launching the flooring business. My expertise stems from my background in Naval Aircraft engineering and extensive travel, which gave me a practical, problem-solving mindset. In the 1970s, I also taught Design, Technology, and Maths, including evening classes at technical colleges. Alongside this, I’ve renovated a number of large country houses and Edwardian properties.
The flooring business started out of frustration; I could never find the quality, sustainable flooring I was looking for. Poor service, unreliable deliveries, and inconsistent standards were all too common. That’s why I’m so passionate about offering premium products with reliable service.
Today, we probably hold the largest range of flooring in the UK, both in terms of product variety and volume available for immediate delivery.”
