Domestic and Commercial Relationships: A Suppliers Story

28/11/2019

The Solid Wood Flooring Company are proud to be part of a project that involved a building ingrained in the history of Manchester. Awarded Grade II listed status by English Heritage in 1998 as an acknowledgment of its important cultural and architectural legacy,

Built in 1867 during the peak of Manchester’s prominence as the world’s number one centre for the cloth trade, the building is the only remaining of four warehouses erected by the Manchester & Birmingham Railway Company.

Also in 1998, the building was transformed into The Place Aparthotel, retaining many of the building’s original features, including the impressively crafted iron, stone and brick work. These can be seen in the original Victorian railings manning the balconies, the barrel ceilings, the stupendous façade and the large, spacious public area which makes unique.

Now part of the Native Places group, we were asked by the Cost Consultants to manufacture a chevron board that met the budgetary requirements of their client. We met with the Architects to scope the project and then produced 3 variations for the client to choose from. After much debate as they loved all 3 samples, we were given signed control samples back so that we could manufacture what the client required.

The final decision was to use our Fumed Antique Chevron Parquet Band Sawn Finish Wood Flooring, with boards that have been fumed for 2 days to give a very large colour variation without any toning from coloured oils. The surface has then been band-sawn to create a fantastic texture before being finished with a very matt UV Oil. A truly unique floor is the result and our client was extremely satisfied with the project outcome.

This was an exciting project to be apart of as specialists in working with the hospitality and commercial trade. Another key project we have worked on is on a new La Bistrot Pierre opening in Eastbourne. Having worked with the brand over the last 8 years, it is fantastic to have built a relationship where they come to us as their flooring supplier for each of their new restaurants. There is a case study that discusses this further and only goes to highlight the great domestic and commercial relationships we have built and the positive results that come from working together on projects like the ones we are mentioning today.

If you need help with refurbishing your business or home and need a flooring supplier, then order a free sample today and The Solid Wood Flooring Company would be more than happy to help.
