Whether you are wanting to update your home in time for Christmas, or want to make the improvements with a view to selling in the New Year, the burning question is will wood flooring actually make a difference to my home and its value?
Well, according to the National Wood Flooring Association 80% of estate agents surveyed agree that installing wood floors increases home value by 1% – 10%. Furthermore, 12% of the estate agents surveyed agree an even larger increase in value is likely.
If the purpose of your house update is with a view to selling, then there are choices you can make to ensure your flooring will appeal to the masses. Opting for more neutral tones and lighter flooring that will not be too harsh on the eye will mean the flooring will blend nicely with your interior. There are ways in which the flooring can be finished to a darker tone and should not then put anybody off buying the property.
It should be noted that if a darker floor was picked that it would then be more difficult to make lighter. If this is a choice whereby you are styling up your home for the festive season, then a dark flooring would work well however when selling it is small details like your flooring that will make the difference. If the flooring is kept light and easily updated, then this will serve as an extra factor in the appeal of your property.
For those with more long-term plans to stay in their home, then wood flooring can offer a solution that could see you through the next 10 years. This would be dependent on the traffic coming through your home, but solid wood flooring can be sanded down and refinished to maintain quality.
Whether you are a property owner or a Landlord, a solid wood floor can be a favourable option as spillages are easily cleaned and any damage can generally be dealt with by refinishing or replacing individual boards. Using one of our wood flooring treatments offers a much more cost effective solution than having to replace a whole carpet for example.
No matter what the circumstances of your house update is, the quality and standard of the finish is part of what will either contribute to ‘sale appeal’ or simply ensure your flooring has the durability factor.
Wishing you all a great festive season and a Happy 2020 from The Solid Wood Flooring Company.
